What Are The Rules for the Event?
USAT open water rules apply to this event.


Can I Swim in a Wetsuit?
Under USAT rules wetsuits are permitted when the water temperature is up to and including 78 degrees Fahrenheit. When the water temperature is greater than 78 degrees but less than 84 degrees Fahrenheit, wetsuits may be worn; however, the participant is not eligible for prizes or awards. Above 84 degrees, wetsuits are prohibited.


Can I draft?
Drafting is permitted and considered part of the racing strategy. The lead swimmer has the right of way, Swimmers can not draft behind an escort or safety craft. Intentional contact with another swimmer or contact which causes interference is not permitted.

Safety


Is this dangerous?
As race organizers, safety is our number one concern. Like all sports, swimming has some risks. Open water swimming is strenuous, but no more so than swimming is a pool.

What safety precautions have been taken?
In order to recieve sanctioning from the various athletic organizations, our safety plans are reviewed numerous times. Numerous kayakers will be in the water ready to assist swimmers. Lifeguards and spotters will be on the shoreline ready to help. If at any time, the safety personnel feel the race is getting unsafe, they have the abilty to call for the water to be cleared.
